What to Expect
You will be asked to complete some paperwork which Rutu will send 3-4 days ahead of your visit. It will include a detailed history, which includes past surgical and medical history, medications, and sexual, gynecologic or obstetric history. You will also be able to indicate where the pain is, what kind of pain it is and when it started. You can email the paperwork back to Rutu or bring it to your first appointment.
At your first visit, Rutu will perform a thorough orthopedic examination, with close attention to the lumbar spine and hips, gait and posture.
The assessment usually includes evaluation of both internal (if you agree) and external muscles. Rutu may ask you to stand, walk and sit, which will help her detect any existing posture or joint issues affecting the pelvic floor muscles.
The evaluation helps to determine whether the therapy is appropriate and guides the creation of an appropriate care plan. Rutu will explain everything clearly and in detail so you know what benefits you may experience.
Through a tailored treatment plan, Rutu manipulates pelvic floor muscles to restore their strength and function. Appropriate techniques are also employed to strengthen muscles, alleviate contractions associated with overactive bladder, and keep the bladder, rectum and uterus in their positions. The ultimate goal of the therapy is to help ease pain and associated symptoms, and restore normal functioning.
There are multiple techniques Rutu can use to treat those muscles internally, which will help them in future sessions. If you are uncomfortable with having your internal muscles addressed, there are many techniques she can do outside.
